| Prius, Yaris and Sienna named Best in Class by Greenercars.org | |
| As drivers regroup from last summer's punishing fuel prices, there is a belief by some that the worst of high fuel costs is now in our collective rearview mirror. While many of us would like to believe that, we all know better. We can all enjoy gasoline now for around $2 a gallon, but most people are aware that the current price correction is only temporary, at least without drastic changes to the world's reliance on oil. For that reason and more, Toyota strives to make each one of its models "greener" than previous editions. It would be easy to keep the status quo in these tough times, but that's not what made Toyota a world leader in fuel-efficient vehicles. The most popular hybrid vehicle in history, Prius, is now in its third generation and Toyota continues to research and develop other "green" options while also increasing the fuel efficiency of its existing vehicle lineup. So it should be no surprise that Greenercars.org recently named three Toyota models Best Vehicle by Class. The Toyota Yaris was honored in the subcompact division while Prius and Sienna received top accolades for the midsize and minivan divisions, respectively. Celebrated as the benchmark for cars of the future, the Prius has delivered superior fuel economy and ultra-low emissions to more than 1.2 million owners worldwide for over 10 years. The third-generation 2010 Toyota Prius offers enhanced performance and innovative design features. It's quieter, roomier, and equipped with advanced standard and available features such as four driving modes, steering wheel touch controls that display on the instrument panel, a moonroof with solar panels, and Intelligent Parking Assist (IPA). The Prius is equipped with Toyota's industry-leading Hybrid Synergy Drive and certified as an Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (AT-PZEV), emitting over 70 percent fewer smog-forming emissions than the average new vehicle. A larger and more powerful yet more efficient 1.8-liter Atkinson-cycle, four-cylinder engine produces 98 horsepower at 5,200 rpm. Together with its electric motor, the hybrid system in the 2010 Prius will generate a combined net horsepower of 134, an increase of 24 horsepower over the previous generation. The 2009 Toyota Yaris is available right now with fuel efficiency up to 36 miles per gallon. The Yaris brings a high level of balanced value, safety and a fun-to-drive experience to the entry subcompact segment. Its 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine is equipped with variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i) and produces 106 hp at 6,000 rpm and 103 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,200 rpm. The optional four-speed automatic transmission features uphill/downhill shift logic to reduce gear "hunting" for smooth performance when driving in hills. Yaris is available with a number of comfort and convenience options, as well as a selection of accessories for individualization. The 2009 Toyota Sienna is built with families in mind and comes standard with Toyota's Star Safety SystemTM. Sienna also offers an array of other comfort and convenience features such as 6-way adjustable driver's and 4-way front passenger captain's chairs with armrests and height-adjustable headrests in all seating positions. With fuel economy of up to 23 miles per gallon, Sienna offers families the ability to carry a big load without carrying a big fuel cost. It's just another member of the Toyota family designed with the environment in mind. You can learn more about Toyota's commitment to the environment by clicking here. |
